Thats our photo mascot, Spongebob Squarepants, on our windowledge with the Canadian Horeshoe falls in the background. Spongebob joined our trip in Vegas, when he emerged from a cereal packet. He replaced the cuter, but much harder to stash in your jeans pocket, Surf Rescue Beanie Bear that we had planned to use.
We filled our bellies at the neighbouring restaurant, then donned our Snow Gear for a long day in the elements. Snow had dusted the ground overnight and there was enough for young Brooke to manufacture about 300 snowballs on our travels. It never gets old!!!
Only about 8 celcius below zero, but with windchill was about -18c and our snow clothes held up until late afternoon, so were a good investment (Anaconda, Joondalup, Snow Sale!).
Our day saw us take in all the usual views (amongst occasional light snow fall), wander across the bridge through passporot control into the US side and the National Park, and some rather icy and frozen paths just for fun. There were acouple of closed off areas for winter, but we think that was a good tradeoff for snow trees, frozen paths and no helicopters buzzing. Dragon Breath and snowballs were just a bonus.
We grabbed a Subway dinner so that we could just sit at our window with the lights off and watch the floodlit falls. Pure magic.
The girls were exhausted so got a dose of TV, while us grown ups ventured to the Falls edge on the dark for a better view. Its a bit like watching a fire - I could do it for hours....
All up - we were all blown away by Niagara Falls. Spectacular. Awe inspiring. Humbling. A magic little side trip, and we were very happy to see it white!
