Ooops. Missed a few entries...we've entered a black hole for internet, but will try and catch up. The problem is we only have access at breakfast, and we're always dashing off!
OK, back to the blog......
Being the day before Pauls marathon we felt a 'rest day' was in order, so headed off to Disney's Hollywood Studios. We figured that park had the least amount of walking based on the maps. It was a pretty good choice. Of course, we planned to leave early but ended up home at 10:30pm....
Some of the attractions on this park are around how Walt started/created/invented and we were blown away. Apart from it being incredible fun, very professionally done etc etc it is simply HUGE. Moving between the various themes uses a fleet of 4000 buses and a bunch of Monorails. 62,000 staff. 450km of roads inside the grounds....you get the picture.
Favourite ride for the day was Toy Story. Pairs sat in cars that moved around a winding indoors track and pointed you at various 3D screens and you went around. Your job was to shoot targets with a simple pull cord trigger. Naturally I won, but it was a great ride.
The crowds were insane, but we used their free fastpass system so didn't have to wait much at all. You go to the ride you want, feed your ticket, then get a fastpass to come back at a later time - and then you walk right in. You have to wait another two hours to get another, so with a bit of planning and watching the wait times on Sarah's iPhone we juggled the day with minimal queueing. I had to dash off to pick up my race pack from another site, and accidenatlly bought some new shoes for the run - what better than to christen them with a Marathon? As an indication of how ripped off we are in Australia - the shoes I got are a new model, officially released in Feb. In Aus that would put them at the $240 ish mark - but I paid $121, including the annoying sales tax. (They were a whole 15% off RRP for the race).
Sales tax - sucks. Pick up an item that's 99c, and it's $1.09 at the checkout. Hate it. Tipping? Dont get me started!
Anyway, Disney Day 1 down. Crowded, but still manageable. Food and gifts on site are ridiculously expensive, but good quality. Rides are awesome! This place was made for me...oh, sorry, I meant the kids.....
Thanks Walt. Legend!
