BANGKOK!!!!
God knows what i'm going to say about this. I'm not sure the place likes me that much, it seems just to be disaster after disaster in this place. I've had some good times, don't get me wrong but would have prefered if they were more frequent than the s*** that i've put up with.
So arrived, had a nice man - Sandy, standing with my name on piece of paper, this always makes me feel special. Since I was on an overnight flight from Perth, I was still tired and so once I was at his house I crashed. Sandy is some random relative of mine, even now that I have left his company I still haven't figured out how we're related, but oh well. He seemed nice enough, his dog on the other hand, didn't like me so much. Stupid mutt bit me, I am now supporting a lovely bite mark and matching bruise on my right wrist. Its not that bad, but it did break the skin. Once that was dealt with I went out in search of the water wars. I was luckily enough to arrive in Bangkok for Songkran, their new year. Basically everything stops and people spend three days going around with water pistols and buckets, soaking everyone and everything. A great way to spend a new year in my opinion, however not one that I recommend for brits, thailand has an advantage with the weather.
Sandy's next door neighbour was having a BBQ that night so he was more than happy to feed me. His neighbour is Korean-they are known for eating dog right, maybe I should have offered Sandy's dog for it. Anyway, food was good, but . . . not cooked quite right. Spent the night throwing it all back up - good times!!!
The place to go in Bangkok - the grand palace. So once i'd managed to compose myself from the night before we headed out, on a very very early start. Got to see some nice things, like the Golden Buddha, and then of to the grand palace, and saw the emerald buddha (really made out of jade) and saw the replica of angkor wat, and so on and so on. Place is glitzy as, totally over the top lol. Saw the reclining buddha too, went on a taxi boat across the river and saw the temple of dawn. Was a jam packed day and this was all done by 2 in the afternoon. Slept most of the rest of the day, since i hadn't got much sleep the night before.
Last day (or so I thought) in Bangkok and I was taken to an ancient market, which is over 100 years old, and some of the sellers truthfully looked like they had been their for the opening. Not a tourist in sight, it is really of the beaten track and doesn't sell the usual tat that you expect at markets, due to it all being for the locals. Was a great insight into the thai way of life.
All packed and ready for my flight home. I wasn't really ready to go home to be honest, mostly because it meant back to reality, work and well yeah work. I had already heard about the volcano but in my head it wasn't that bad and I thought that I would still beable to get to Dubai, wait it out there and be on the next flight back to Glasgow still in time for Jen and Nikki's wedding. This was clearly not the case. Arrived at the airport - and asked to leave. Unless you already had accomodation in Dubai they wouldn't let you board the flight. Clearly waiting it out in transit wasn't an option. Due to this being an act of god, they wouldn't put me up, so a phone call to Sandy and I was back at his house.
Bit stressed, and because I wasn't allowed to go home, I wanted it more than ever. What to do - SHOP!!! Lisa I did you proud, and shopped my little heart out. Whilst online later I got an urgent message from home - GET TO THE AIRPORT NOW!!! so I did, the message my mum had been given was that if I got on a flight to Dubai I would be put on the next available flight to Glasgow. At the airport I soon discovered that the next available flight wasn't until the 29th, 13 days to wait. By this time I was already booked and checked onto the flight. Back online and another message - GET OFF THE FLIGHT. the airport staff must have thought that I was an idiot, but I got my bags of the flight, which by the way took well over an hour.
Anyways, I'm still in Bangkok - with no real idea of what is going on, whether I'm coming or going, whether I'm here until the 29th or if there is a possibility that I will be home before that. I'm now playing the waiting game, and man am I rubbish at it, I've discovered that i'm rather impatient when it comes to this.
