A European Summer
At 5:00am this morning, Margot, Mum and I went for a bike ride as we were jet lagged and up early. We saw 4 horses: a bay and 3 pintos. Once we got back to the house we left straight to Lincoln to see the Castle. This photos shows us on the castle wall with the large Cathedral in the background. This Cathedral has unique engravings covering the building, and was built 800 years ago. The Castle was built by William the Conqueror almost 1000 years ago. It was later used as a prison. We walked across the Castle walls, about 50 metres high. Convicts were shipped from there to Australia.
We then took a 3 hour drive to Kirby Hall to see an Elizabethan mansion. Hundreds of years ago one of the owners sold the mansion's roof, so it is a bit of a ruin. Some rooms have been saved, to show you how it would have been.
Tomorrow we are going to Warwick Castle. I will tell you more about it then.
love Helen
