Well this is it our final blog... after 6 months, 11 countries, 15 flights covering over 29,000 air miles and over 4,000 photos we are 3 days away from returning to the motherland. We've travelled by foot, plane, train, car, scooter, bicycle, helicopter, cyclo, tuk tuk, mule and elephant, we've had an amazing time and cant believe its coming to an end.
A quick update from our last blog from Luang Prabang, Laos, we travelled down to Vang Vieng, where we had to hitch a lift cos the wheel fell off our mini bus. We did the tubing which is crazy, basically floating down a river in an innertube getting pulled in to bars along the way ,throw in a few zip wires, slides and beers and it makes for a top session!! From here we went to the capital Vientienne where we spent a couple of days sight seeing, before flying to Cambodia.
We arrived in Siem Reap and visited the 7th Wonder of the World, the Angkor Wat temples which were amazing and do not look real. We watched the sun rise here which was spectacular. We then moved to Shinoukville on the coast of Cambo' for a few days toppin' up the tans. From here we went back up to Phnom Phen where we visited the S21 Genocide museum and found out about Cambodia's tragic history which was really interesting but sad at the same time.
We caught the bus from here and crossed the border into 'Nam where we arrived in Ho Chi Minh city which is just crazy, millions of scooters and people, no road markings and no traffic lights makes crossing the road a real experience. We visited the Cu Chi tunnels, which the Viet Cong built to evade the Americans and the high light for me was poppin' a few caps from an M-16, i felt proper gangsta!! We visited the War Museum which was really interesting seeing the story being told from a different side and also very sad. We had a few days here then travelled to Mue Ne for a top up of the tan for a few days.
From here we had a horrific journey on the overnight bus to Hoi An, which took 18 hours and I actually thought for the first time I'm getting too old for this carry on!!!!! Any way we made it and Gem was in heaven cos of all the shops where you can have any thing you want made to measure, as you can imagine she turned into Donatella Versace for 3 days and had to buy another bag to carry all her goodies!..... me, I just settled for a new whistle, which fits like a glove and I dont mind saying so myself I look quite the English Gentleman.
As the phsycological scars from the overnight bus still hadnt healed we decided to fly to Hanoi which took 1 hour instead of another 18 hour bus journey, altough we were delayed for 6 hours, but we've come to expect that you just cant plan anything in Asia, its better to have no expectations then you're never disappointed.
The last three days we've spent on a boat in Halong Bay, which is a beautiful part of the world, we have one day left here in Hanoi before we go to Hong Kong for a couple of days, then back to good old Rothers!!!!!!!
All in all we've absolutely loved Asia and Just wish we'd had more time to spend here, it is the most exciting and enjoyable place we've visited but also the most frustrating and tiring of places but we've loved every minute and hope we may return one day if we're lucky.
We cant wait to see everybody when we get back and maybe try and squeeze in a few crazy nights over Christmas.
The last 6 months have been unbelievable and we have simply had the time of our lives.
See you all very soon
