Another perfect morning on the Danube - blue skies, beautiful scenery and the best massage I think I've ever had. This ship has it all!
We were sailing to the German city of Regensburg and as we have commented often, against a very substantial current. Arriving after lunch we forsook the normal walking tour of the town and undertook an optional coach tour to the Weltenburg Abbey and Danube Gorge. There were lots of people about, it being the May Day holiday.
The Abbey was another stunning example of artistry and opulence with this one slightly different in that it produced its own beer! And quite a nice drop it was!
With the Amalegro docked in Regensburg we took a small ferry ride down the Danube Gorge which is the primary river gorge, but being too narrow and bendy to take the bigger ships. It was interesting but .... maybe our expectations are now too high with some of the other scenery.
We then visited a remarkable monument in Kelheim (a 20 minute coach drive from Regensburg). The Liberation Hall was built primarily to commemorate the battles against Napoleon during the wars of 1813-15. This was a fairly modest looking memorial from the outside but the interior took our breath away. And I'm not exaggerating. See the photos.
We finished the day with a 1960s night on board where we let our hair down and had a cracker of a time. Again, see the photos.
