Good Morning Vietnam!!!
A while since our last blog so let us fill you in. After our a day exploring Battambang we caught the bus to Phnom Penh. We spent 2 days in Phnom Penh, first day after checking in to our guesthouse we headed out for a wonder. Along the river loads of people were playing, dancing and singing - the biggest aerobics class we've ever seen. The city seemed quite cool not as busy as we had expected. Had dinner at a little Khmer cafe and had a few beers on a balcony watching over the traffic. Next day we went firstly to the Killing Fields and then onto S21 the secret prison for the supposed enemies of the Khmer Rouge, deeply sobering and harrowing.
Next day we took a 6 hour bus through the Cambodian countryside to the seaside, Sihanoukville. It was lovely to chill out for a few days in the sun by the beach and stuffed our faces with bbq and seafood. Eddie was awarded a free beer for finishing his fish basket which was gratefully accepted even if it is only 50 cents a beer!
After 3 nights in Sihanoukville we got the overnight bus to Ho Chi Minh. 4 hours back to Phnom Penh then change a bus which bought the usual panic and confusion from everybody (fellow travellers aren't friendly when they don't know whats going on). 3 hours sat on the bus before it left the station, then 5 hours to the border which was a doddle then 2 hours to Ho Chi Minh City, where as our luck continues we were dropped off right outside our guesthouse and allowed in to go straight to sleep. After nap time we headed out into the noise! The amount of mopeds here tops everywhere else we've been. First impressions are good, people are very friendly and the city is buzzing. There area no tuk tuk drivers to offer us contraband so the moto dirvers have taken over the hard sell for prostitutes, guns and drugs. A few beers around Pham Ngu Lao listening to the moped melody before heading back for some well needed sleep.
Today we woke up bright and early to explore the city. Our first stop was the War Remnants musuem which is interesting and upsetting and closes abruptly for lunch! After being kicked out f the museum, we spent the day exploring and playing our new favourite game, traffic chicken. Stopped at a pho noodle shop for beef noodle soup, pretty tasty. Had dinner at an overated western place before checking out the alleys where we wieghed up which girlie bar to go in before deciding that Fay wouldn't be welcome in any of them.
Heading to Cholon tomorrow and maybe check out a waterpark.
See you in a few days!
