So its now the capital city for 4 nights caught the bus from philly to washington and yet again pretty painless! Worst bit is when you get there and you have no map and you forgot to check on the internet where the hotel even was!!
Managed to find a map, hoodwink a few locals into some directions and we were on our way to another subway system! Got our tickets worked out what line we wanted and were soon on our way to the hotel. Arrived at the Allan Lee Hotel to the sound of this crazy coloured woman in hospital scrubs shouting that someone in the hotel had stolen all her clothes and she had nothing to wear! Advising us rather vocally to take our business elsewhere if we wanted to keep our clothes!! Was hilarious and a tad disconcerting until the man she was shouting at over the reception desk leaned round and told us to ignore her cause she was nothing but a drunk who came in at the same time every day with the same chat!
Got checked in and as I had a rather painful condition called golfers vasculitis from too much walking mike went off to explore and left me to put my feet up! When he returned he had sussed out where to go for dinner so we went to the river front for a couple of drinks then to a trendy area near our hotel called georgetown for dinner. Then as per usual i was falling asleep by 10 so we stumpled home to bed.
Day 2 not a great start when you turn on the telly and the first thing you see is a tornado warning in the washington area and predictions of torrential rain and gusting winds!! Got out the macs from their sacs and took to the streets in search of the historical sights. Visited the Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson memorials and the white house before the heavens opened. Can honestly say i have never been so wet! You know when you walk in the rain in your jeans and the rain creeps up the ankles of your trousers? Well within an hour the rain had gone up my trousers as far as my knees!! Walked about for a bit longer before giving up and heading back to georgetown for a well earned drink!
Day 3 Still raining!!!! So had the morning in the hotel hoping it would let up but by 1pm it was still raining so we took ourselves off to the spy museum! Very cool with loads of james bond stylee gadgets! Took us over 3 hours and when we left it was still raining!! So yep you guessed it back to georgetown for dinner!
Day 4 Hurrah the rain has stopped and the sun is shining! Spent the morning retaking some of our photos as everything always looks better when the sun is shining! If you like your museums and you like free stuff you will love washington as nearly all the museums are free!! So we took in the air and space museum well mike did and I just looked at a few cool planes and some spaceships and waited for mike to read every single plaque in the entire museum!!! As the weather was so nice we gave up our dinner in aid of a liquid tea in the sun so dont remember much else about our last night in washington!
