Day 288 - Colonia Del Sacramento -Monday 30th July 2012
We woke up this morning and after a quick shower we made our way to the small restaurant / kitchen for our breakfast which was all included in the price. It was awesome, loads of fresh bread, cereal, coffee, tea and homemade pastries and cakes! As it was all included we made the most of it and completely stuffed our faces! We chatted to the lady on the reception and she gave us a map and pointed out all the highlights of the town, to be honest, there wasn't that much highlighted as the town is really small. So armed with my map I took control and told Soph that I would give her, her own private tour of Colonia Del Sacramento! Luckily the B&B was right in the middle of town and thus made my tour slightly easier. We entered the old city through a brick built gate and had a walk around the city wall that looks out to sea, the view was great and although it was cold the sun was out. Then we visited the old lighthouse and a few of the other ruins before heading out to the pier. In fairness the pier was only small but there were a few small boats coming in so we sat in the cool sun and relaxed in the fresh sea air which was really nice. As we started to walk back we saw a restaurant called the drugstore, which we had been told by the lady in our B&B was nice, laid back and friendly, and that sometimes had live bands. Well she was spot on! We had a really nice lunch accompanied by an amazing two piece Brazilian band. They were just sitting with one guitar each and the music was excellent - so much so we parted with $200 peso to buy one of their CDs! Back at the B&B Soph found a Estancia that Maya (after searching for months for this place she finally stumbled across it and saw a picture of Maya on the home page!) had stayed in two years prior so we booked it and the buses to get there… this time tomorrow I'll be riding a horse like Frankie Dettori!
