Day 297, 298 - Foz do Iguacu & the Falls - Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th August 2012
And so we have arrived……..our thirteenth and final country of our trip! Being a wee bit superstitious and given that we'd had such a great trip thus far, we were a little worried that thirteen might be unlucky for us. But as luck would have it, our host at Iguassu B & B told us, as he gave us the key to our room number thirteen (funny hey), that thirteen is actually considered a lucky number in Brazil! We think we're going to like it here; the sun is shining, it's a cool eighty five degrees and the people are friendly - a winning combination! We spent the day just chilling out and organising our travel and accommodation for our next destination and followed this by an early night ready for a day of exploration of the Brazilian side of the falls the next day
We were up early to get a full days' worth of viewing of the Brazilian side of the falls and after a twenty minute bus arrived at the entrance. Once in we jumped on the bus that took us to the start of the trail - the first stop on the trails was amazing with huge amounts of cascading water coupled with rainbows and butterflies! We spent a couple of hours walking up the trail and taking in all of the different but each striking scenes of different waterfalls until finally we reached the final one. It was huge and magnificent - the sound of the water alone was enough to still you! We ventured down the walkway and took lots of pictures and got extremely wet and windswept but it was well worth it. It was definitely worth seeing both sides of the falls as the Brazilian side gives to you more of an overall look. After spending probably a bit too much time staring at the falls we chilled out on the green for a bit before heading back into town to get something to eat and pack ready for our final night bus. It was to be a mammoth journey to Paraty; we got on the bus at 6pm and the plan is to arrive in Paraty tomorrow at 7pm so a twenty five hour journey! Films on the laptop and snacks are at the ready……
