After staying with Ben (Lucy's cousin/winner of The Best job in the World) in Brisbane we got the bus to Byron Bay and checked into Cape Byron YHA, good hostel with our own room. After tagging numerous photos we wandered around Byron and got started on the Goon! Then we headed to Cocomangas for free drinks and Cheeky Monkeys for a dance on the tables!
The next day was spent nursing hangovers lying on the beach!(tough life!) When we'd fully recovered we headed to the lighthouse and the most easterly point of Australia. Great views but bit of a long walk especially going back in the dark!!
Another day spent on Byron's beach waiting for our night bus at 11.10pm! That night we headed to Cheeky monkeys (for food this time not dancing!) had awesome veggie burgers and chips and 3 free glasses of champagne all for $5! Grace also got a free t-shirt which the rest of us are rather jealous of!
Night bus was as good as expected! I seemed to be the only one to get any sleep, arrived in Sydney at midday and headed to Maze Backpackers, bit prison-like but nice enough (have 2 rooms between us). While the girls had a snooze I wandered to the Anzac Memorial, St. Mary's Cathedral and the Art gallery (I know I'm a geek!) After I got back we had tea and showers and got ready to go out for my birthday. Grace, Zoe and lucy had got me some awesome presents and had some great ones from home too. Also had cake and candles, and Goon. We headed out on the hostels Mini Full Moon party to Side bar where I got many birthday wishes (because of the banner I was wearing!) and some more free drinks.
Woke up the next morning late and headed to Darling Harbour, took some photos then sat in the park soaking up the rays! After cheap noodles for tea me and Grace did some washing (exciting stuff!) and tried to get bags sorted for flight to Laos.
Checked out of hostel but have left luggage in storage until later for our flight.
Australia has been amazing! We've seen loads, had some fun and slept in a tent on the largest sand island in the world with dingoes wandering around. We just hope the next leg will be as good, we know it will be (and hopefully Asia will be cheaper!)
