Day 35: Katherine to Kakadu
Today is one of those days where there is not a great deal to write about but it was a very memorable day.
We managed an early start again departing Katherine at about 8.30am. By about 10am we were appreciative of the early departure as the heat through the windscreen was quite warm.
We reached Kakadu National Park just before lunch, paid our entry fee ($25 per person lasting for 2 weeks, kids under 16 free), and continued onto Bowali visitor centre to get information on what to do during our stay here.
With maps in hand we proceeded onto Jabiru and checked into Kakadu Lodge and Caravan Park for 3 nights.
Once set up I convinced Darren to have an easy afternoon, so after lunch we lazed around by the pool until about 5.30pm when it was time to get dinner organised.
A day we all enjoyed, not due to anything exciting or spectacular but because it was a warm (Darren would say hot), sunny day that we got to experience together.
Tomorrow we return to our adventure, experiencing as much of Kakadu as it has to offer.
The park we are staying at has grassed sites with a pool located right at the centre. The amenities are not the worst I have seen but are also far from being the best.
The lady who checked us in at reception is from Shellharbour and has been here for 4 months. Her depth of knowledge of the area is very impressive especially seems she has only been here a short time. We picked her brain and got advice on where to go. Love the advice about swimming best, apparently all the signs say to swim at your own risk as they can't 100% guarantee there won't be a croc! Umm, do we take the risk, in this heat I can understand why people do.
