We finally landed in Changi airport Singapore on Monday 27th October 8am local time, OMG it was HOT when we got outside, 34 degrees at 9am…wowsers! We were sweaty and sticky within 10 minutes, and the sun, I've never seen sun so bright! We got the SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transport) to our accommodation; V Hotel Lavendar. It was a very trendy, modern looking hotel, we decided this was probably going to be the nicest place we would be staying for the whole month in South East Asia haha! We got ourselves showered and despite only having around 6 hours sleep in the last two days (including the 8 hour time difference) we headed out to explore! The weather had turned torrential, was this what a month in Asia in monsoon season was going to be like?! We got the SMRT to the business district where I got approached by some ladies who gave me a free hand treatment…I basically got my hands dunked into and out of hot wax then wrapped in cling film for 5 minutes in the hope that they could sell me some spa treatments. Unlucky ladies, I got a free hand massage muhaha! By this time the weather had gone back to being sunny and we were really hungry so we headed to the nearest food court; they served an array of local dishes, we chose a crazy 3 Singapore$ flat noodle shredded chicken soup. Seats were few and far between, and when we did eventually find one we got kicked out of them by an angry McDonald's worker. After we'd finally found a perch and scoffed down our lunch we had a walk around Marina Bay, home of the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel with a huge boat on top. We then got on an open top city tour bus where Sam took advantage of many micro sleeps. We got on the Singapore flyer (Singapore's equivalent of the London eye) but the rain had started again, this time with thunder and lightning so the visibility was not good at all so it seems like a huge waste of $. We headed back to where our hotel was and tried out another food court where they served ambiguous delicacies like pig organ soup?!?! WTF? We had take out from the food court and sat in our hotel room like teenagers and ate chilli crab mini pasty type things, mushy chicken balls on a skewer, fish balls on a skewer and some very bland noodles followed by an Oreo doughnut. Then we fell asleep at 6.30pm…rock 'n' roll!!!
After a much needed 12 hour sleep we woke up on Tuesday 28th October and went for a very expensive breakfast for what it was; chicken sausages, hash browns that looked like fish fingers and star fruit to name a few of the bits we ate! We then headed out to get the SMRT to Sentosa Island, the weather was beautiful! When we arrived Universal Studios hadn't opened yet so we headed up the Tiger Sky Tower to get a view of the city and island. The view was beautiful but not as good as was advertised so that was a little bit disappointing but never mind. Universal Studios itself was so much fun, we went on lots of movie themed rides, ate lunch in an American diner, met the cookie monster, minions, optimus prime and bumblebee, Frankenstein and beetle juice who came over to us ad high fived Sam as a distraction technique while he tried to sneak me a kiss! We then went for a quick drink at Hard Rock Café Sentosa before paying Sentosa Sea Life Aquarium a visit. We ended the day by heading to Siniso beach on Sentosa to watch the sunset…bliss! Back at the hotel we got showered and changed and got the SMRT into Little India where there were lots of crazy markets and beautiful smells of coriander and incense! We found an interesting looking restaurant called The Jungle Tandoori Restaurant where we indulged in some peanut satay chicken, chicken sagwala and vegetable pilau rice. Sam had a Tiger beer and I had a glass of wine. The food was delicious, much fresher and more aromatic than the curry's we are used to in the UK. Then we tried to go up to the top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel for a drink and to admire the view but Sam basically got told he was too scruffy so we couldn't go up haha! Instead we had a wander round the harbour, took some photos then headed back to the hotel for a sleep via taxi as it was post midnight and the SMRT had stopped running.
Wednesday 29th October...our last morning in Singapore; after another extortionate breakfast our quest for today was to get a good photo of Singapores skyline. This time we headed to Raffles Place in the business district and for the 1-Altitude gallery and bar,and wowsers it was worth it. Singapores highest standing building with an alfresco bar and 360 degree views of the city...we cracked it! We also got a free drink there! We then went for a bit of a cultural approach and headed along the river to the museum of Asian history, the cenotaph and the original merlion. Sam met a Chinese guy who worked at an airborne forces museum so that made his day. Then we ate some noodles by the river before heading back to the hotel for the next leg of our trip...Malaysia's capital city...Kuala Lumpur!!!
