Our Travels
Friday 27th February 2004
Em - Well after getting up at 6am and ready and raring for my trip to Fraser i found out that the stupid women told me the wrong pickup time and i could have had an extra couple of hours in bed - goddam! Anyway headed to Fraser Island and arrived in the middle of the biggest sand island in Oz about 11am. Went for a walk along a fresh water creek through the rainforst after a bumpy 4wd across woodland and sand. then for lunch and spent the afternoon driving along the 75 mile beach to the coloured sands, the maheno shipwreck which lies literally in the middle of the beach and then we went to Eli Creek which is a fresh water creek that runs 200m into the sea, you basically walk to the top and float back down again. Then chilled.....
Beck - Arrived in Brisbane and met up with Greg, first time we've seen each other for 5 months so was quite strange! He's been here for a few days so he took me on a little tour of the city. We went to the art gallery which was really good. Then headed to the beachy area in the middle of the city to chill out for a bit. In the evening we went to the Indie Temple to see a couple of bands, then we went to a club which is kind of like nexus, for those of you who know of it in Soton.

Em - Had to get up pretty early and headed to Lake McKenzie. It was absolutely beautiful, crystal clear beach and white sand which is great for exfoliating! Had a swim and sunbathe then headed for a walk and some lunch. Had the rest of the afternoon to chill out on the beach and saw a huge sting ray in the sea crashing against the waves.
Beck - Had a pretty damn lazy day so not much to report!
Sunday 29th February 2004
Em - Went for a 4km hike this morning to Lake Wabby, basically you have to walk 2km over a huge sand dune and it feels like your in the middle of the Saharah (not sure on spelling - sorry!) And then down a huge bank to the lake, again just had a swim with Rainbow fish nibbling at the old feet and sunbathed for a while. Headed back for lunch and then chilled out till it was time to head back to the mainland onto Mooloolaba.
Beck - Our bus down to Nimbin wasn't till lunchtime so we went for a walk around the shops. Arrived in Nimbin, which is a really strange place, really hippy place where everyone is stoned all the time. Went out for a meal and went to the cinema. Never seen such a strange film, was just music and images!
Monday 1st March 2004
Em - Spent the day in Mooloolaba wandering around the shops and along the beach, it was quite overcast so not really sunbathing weather, but nice all the same. Headed back and chilled out, chatted to some randoms etc etc
Beck - Got the bus from Nimbin to Byron bay. Had a wander around and went down to the beach. The weather wasn't great so no beach time i'm afraid, so we went in the hostel swimming pool instead.
Tuesday 2nd March 2004
Em - Got the bus and headed to Nimbin, much the same as what Beck just said, but i didn't got to the cimema, i drank free wine and toasted marshmallows on the fire instead - yum! Met some really nice Norwegians and a couple of guys from London, all good.
Beck - Rain again, grrrr. Watched "being John Malkovich" in the morning. Brightened up in the afternoon so we hired some bikes from the hostel and went up to the lighthouse.
Wednesday 3rd March 2004
I (Em) got to Byron at about 12pm and checked into the YHA that Beck wasn't at! Typical! So headed off to find her and it was nice and easy, bumped into her as she was coming out of the door!! She had just seen Greg off on the Oz bus so we decided to head for lunch to catch up on the previous few days! Have spent the afternoon trip planning cause again the weather hasn't been too great, we're here until sat so hopefully it'll brighten up!
Thursday 4th March 2004
Well both of us are now in the same hostel and it was a pretty lovely day so we decided to go to the beach - big mistake! Got quite windswpt and consequently covered in sand - everywhere! So cut our losses and decided to got back and spend the afternoon by the hostel pool which was lovely.
Friday 5th March 2004
Donmt know if any of you heard about the cyclone makng its way across Western Australia - well it hit Byron Bay today! We had 125km winds and complete downpours all day - literally! Not much good when you are in a beach town, so we abused free internet and wandered round the shops, played numerous games of cards and ate....
Saturday 6th March 2004
Headed on the Oz bus when it finally arrived (had lots of trouble cause of flooding) and went to Bellingen for our overnight stop.
Sunday 7th March 2004
Seal Rocks today stopped in a lovely seaside town called Port Macquarie for lunch, we had aimed to try Kangeroo and Crocodile pes, but failing finding those we settled for cheese and chicken sandwiches - what a disappointment! Seal Rocks is literally in the middle of nowhere and after checking out the lovely little beach and writing a nice message in the sand, we had a group bbq where we troughed plenty to get our moneys worth!
