The travels of Karyn and Robert
After reading 'The Tournament', the only place that was not on the our tour tomorrow was the Basilica Cistern. After disembarking early we set off to exchange some Euros to Turkish Lira. Note to all travellers to Turkey's Karakoy port district. The only bank in a row of five that exchanges Euro is the Turkish Bank, and that is after you wait longer than time spent at any NSW RMS office. The good news the bank is across the road from the Ferry terminal and the light rail station of Kabatas Sea Bus Pier. When we arrived at the underground station, after missing the cars and buses on the busy road, there was an assistance ready to give locals and tourist a hand with the ticketing machines. She had to complete a questionnaire re: the quality of service of the light rail. This was a no brainer, as only Sydney builds a new Cruise Terminal without pubic transport link - you reading this Gladys. For 2 TL each ($1) we were on the light rail to the Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque), On arrival there were high school students working as Tourism Ambassadors with T-shirt with the sigh 'Ask me'. Guess what I did, as we were free wheeling it today - I asked for directions, they were very helpful and walked us to the entrance of the Cistern. Wow, what an experience, more columns, this time flood lit, underground, with a walkway over the water. The photos are from the iPad as Security Police Paluzzano did not want the pick pockets to take our camera. Low lux and no flash make dark and eerie photos. Its midnight and I am going to bed, up early for a tour of the rest of 'the unmissables'
