So most of our day was driving through the curvy mountains road (actually as far as I could tell there was just the one long road. We passed through a few towns, and many villages, each with the same, slow Lao way of life. The Lao people are very relaxed and laid back, like they all possess one speed only. This is great most of the time, though apparently infuriating in emergencies lol. The villages and the landscape mostly looked the same - gorgeous 100% - and I fell into a trance watching this totally foreign world pass by my window. The most 'exciting' event of the trip was my leech attack during a pee stop.
We arrived at night in Luang Prabang, the country's old capital, and Nicole took us to the night market. I had already been loving Laos, and this city cinched the deal. It is officially my favourite country ever! We slurped up yummy fruit shakes (these are everywhere, and I'm alrteady addicted!), ate dinner in an outdoor vegetarian buffet style stall and went a little shopping crazy! Everything is soooo cheap here(inflation of more than 100% plus a 500% deprevation of the Lao Kip means that it is all too easy to become a millionaire in Laos). It was all very crowded and hot, with about a million light bulbs hanging everywhere, illuminating the hand crafted lamps, paintings, scarves, pants etc. We both had soooo much fun (and btw Johnny has to be the best boyfriend ever! No one else's guys were too keen to shop, but my man was just as excited as me lol!!!)
