After an AWESOME Breakfast served by our Hostess with the Mostess...we set off on the final leg of our journey and about another 13klms of walking. Again through lovely little towns and farmland, and stunning eucalyptus groves. Distant glimpses of the ocean and two interesting women from the West Indies who invited us in for tea and a rest. Margie had been inspired by a friend of hers to pick a bouquet of wild flowers along the way, as an ANGEL would come to us that would be happy to receive them. Interestingly we came across a lone Angel..who we never did get a name from who was having her 93rd Birthday walk ...all alone and loving life! We had a long interaction with her, and took a bunch of pics. Ev got all ferklempt and Margie gave her the Angel Flowers! What a wondrous experience that was.
We had a hotel waiting for us in Finisterre and it was with mixed feelings that I was getting closer to the end. It was getting emotional...as I had been walking almost a month now and it was SOO FREEING...to just WALK...Now what? Margie was off to Southern Spain to a music festival, and I would be alone to reflect. Soo many emotions were arising for me...Joy that I could rest for a while, sadness that it was over, melancholy missing my friends that I had met along the way, Gratitude for Margie and this wonderful Camino experience that I had. I spent the last 2 hours as Margie walked into town with a couple of young guys from Japan, just hanging back alone...crying...just allowing the mix of emotions to just have their WAY
Arriving in town was exciting and we got cleaned up and walked down to the pier to explore. I had heard there were many great Seafood restaurants and Margie being a Vegan, we looked for a win win place to celebrate our finish of the walk together and decided on a lovely Pizza/Pasta place. I enjoyed the seafood pasta and Magie had Pizza...we both enjoyed the WINE! It is a beautiful town and has the pleasure of two coastlines...one on the WEST Coast and one on the South.East
The next day after coffee we walked out ther to the END OF THE EARTH another 5klms of walking uphill to the lookout point and Mile 0 of the Camino. It was a beautiful walk and lovely (but totally WINDY) out there! Lots of people taking pictures and a bright sunny day again for our last day. They say to leave something of importance behind, like your boots...Not!,..mine still have a lotta miles left, but I did leave a rock I had found and been carrying with me since the first day. It felt good to have closure and celebrate the end of the END as it were...I ended up hitchhiking back down as my foot was SOOO DONE...lol
Some Awesome pic in the photos file!
We had a nice last supper at a cheap and cheerful little place and packed our stuff one last time to head to the bus in the morning for our trip back to Santiago. Margie to the airport and me back to Porto for a night to pick up the 10 pounds of stuff I luckily left behind with my friend Mariana! Thanks Again Mariana...Then south to the Algarve to visit my friend Leonie for a few days. It was a cold and windy morning as we walked down the short distance to the cafe and our bus for our 3 hour journey back to the city. We hugged goodbye at the bus station ...me somewhat teary ...each on our way to new adventures..
I am sooo blessed to have walked those last 6 days with my friend Margie not only for our time together, but also to have time to decompress from my experience and share this beautiful place called Galacia. Others have told me that they cried for 3 days when they got home! I get it...I can see how some become addicted to the Walk...I get it!
Thanks for your support and comments along The Way...My Way! Its always great to have friends along. My foot and my knee healed after about a month but even now, in the heat of Oman where I can only walk in the mall for a few more weeks. Till it cools down..I YEARN to walk!
I KNOW that I shall return...this time with a LOT LESS TO CARRY!!
Blessings, Ev
“Go outside. Don’t tell anyone and don’t bring your phone. Start walking and keep walking until you no longer know the road like the palm of your hand, because we walk the same roads day in and day out, to the bus and back home and we cease to see. We walk in our sleep and teach our muscles to work without thinking and I dare you to walk where you have not yet walked and I dare you to notice.
Don’t try to get anything out of it, because you won’t. Don’t try to make use of it, because you can’t. And that’s the point. Just walk, see, sit down if you like. And be. Just be, whatever you are with whatever you have, and realize that is enough to be happy.
There’s a whole world out there, right outside your window. You’d be a fool to miss it.”
