Colonia del Saracemento
January 29th - 31st 2012 (Day 331 - Day 333)
Hi Everyone,
We arrived in Colonia del Sacramento by ferry from Buenos Aires, it only took a couple of hours. We walked to our hostel which was ok and into our four man dorm. I happened to be the only girl and and on top of that was assigned a top bunk that had no stairs to get up there.
We spent our time here exploring the quaint little town, meandering around the cobbled streets, sipping soft drinks and beer by the pier and watching the sunset. It is lovely here. I would recommend it...
There isn't too much to do we spent the first day doing a mini walking tour of the old town, seeing the old city gate and wooden drawbridge and climbing up to the old lighthouse to see the views around.
One night in the hostel I spent the evening talking to an argentinian man who introduced me to the art of drinking mate. It was really interesting to see his take on everything. He felt it was extremerily odd to go to a country where you can't speak the language.. which makes sense as we've had so many south americans asking ask if we speak spanish and are very surprised when we say no. Unfortunately this was ruined by a stereotypical bad american..
A big thing happened whilst we were here. Chris proposed to me and of course I said yes. It all happened under a beautilful settling whilst we were sitting on the rocks by the pier watching the waves crashing into the rocks and the sunset. What completely got me was that he had carried a ring since we started the trip which meant he had been thinking about it for a long time, though I'm not sure why it took so long. He must have wanted to check whether he could stomach being with me for 12 months 24/7!!!
Love and happiness
