Sukhothai
4th May - 5th May (Day 61 - 62)
Hi Everyone!
We arrived in Sukhothai after 6 hours on a bus from Chiang Mai. We were not happy when we saw the TV light up thinking we had 6 hours of thai pop music. Lucky for us we had a Channing Tatum movie extravaganza, I've never seen Chris so happy.. GI Joe followed by Step Up. We got here late afternoon so spent the evening exploring the new city which is tiny. There are about two streets and about 5 restaurants all together. Very different to Chiang Mai.
The next day we rode a super big song thaew to the old city to explore the ruins. We woke up very early as we wanted to keep out of the sun, it has been very very very hot here. No chance of that though, as we left our hotel at 7am and the sun was already scorching. We did happen to see some monks on their way back from alms which was nice.
Once there we hired some bicycles and explored the ruins. Even though the park is set, some people describe it as a theme park. I enjoyed cycling around and found it very accesible. The ruins were pretty and impressive, not on the same scale as Angkor Wat but still lovely to look at. There were not many tourists around so we had the site to ourselves.
Once we finished with the ruins we went back to the hotel and had a dip in the swimming pool... we can't be sure that it was very clean... Dinner happened to be in the aptly named "Poo Restaurant". We spent the time there making obvious jokes about the name!
Tomorrow we are up early to get a bus down to Ayutthaya for more temple ruins!
Much Love
