Santiago and Salto de Laja
Dragoman Day 1 & 2
December 24th & December 25th
Day 295 & Day 296
Wow I can't believe it's Christmas already. It has come around discreetly and quickly. It is so hot here that it doesn't feel christmassy at all, even with santa's grotto and decorations.
Yesterday was Christmas eve, we checked out of our lovely apartment to head to the dubious hotel. It was fine but definitely missing the apartment.
We met our dragoman tour group that evening. The group consists of 3 Brits, 4 swedes, 2 Dutch, 1 german, 1 Swiss and 1 Aussie. We have two tour leaders and we met our huge monster truck named Gus.
After the meeting we had a mini Christmas party which included cheese and pineapple, alcohol and Christmas music.
Today, Christmas day we decided to leave Santiago a day earlier to spend an extra day in Pucon. We spent most of the day driving south to our campsite in Salto de Laja. I can't believe I am camping on Christmas day.
We stopped for lunch where the first group prepared lunch and we were shown all the different methods they used to do things. This included 'flapping' where we would wave the washing up dry. It was a funny sight and I felt stupid doing it.
We went to see the Laja waterfalls, it was so busy with chilans. It was a new way to spend Christmas for me. So different from the family roast dinner.
Once we got to the campsite we were given a demonstration setting up the tents. It worked out ok when chris and I did ours.. Thankfully.
Fingers crossed I will sleep well tonight
