I find it is sometimes difficult to break in a new idea to the people here. Say a hike for the fun of it, or a public BBQ like we do at Party in the Park. So it's a bit like Russian roulette (no pun intended), push the envelope a little, than back off, push a little, then back off. So tonight we do a sausage (hotdog) BBQ.
Had a great morning with the kids of KM. We included in the program some singing, like Jesus is My Superhero with all the actions. Mike did a re-enactment of David and Goliath and Sara followed up with a lesson on how small things matter a lot and can make a huge difference, like picking up garbage or being friendly. We'll put that into action tomorrow with some community cleanup.
Joseph and I made a shopping run with Maxim and Catya (our interpreter). It was quite entertaining trying to find standard PITP food supplies, like hot dogs and such. After a lot of laughs, we throw together supplies that should work. Maxim recommended this heavy black bread for the hot dogs - Joseph and I nix the suggestion for something less healthy :-). We even found something that looks kind of like a marsh mellow for roasting over the fire later. Should be fun as the idea of having a hot dog roast is pretty much foreign.
We were able to visit a music store as well and purchase a small sound board along with a djembe (percussive instrument) for the church. Maxim seemed quite pleased with the gift!
The kids can't stop talking about the "sausage" roast we're doing tomorrow night, so it should be fun!
