Sorry me again! Just wanted to say the party was AMAAAZING! We played pass the balloon (with all the women and children all squished into our tiny room!!) which was a version of pass the parcel where you're out when the music stops with the balloon on you. The women got more competitive than the children which was hilarious and it got very feisty in the final rounds. We then played a game where everyone was given a piece of paper with a different challenge on (sing, dance, walk like a chicken etc) which was very funny. Lasmi cracked out the Nepali dance moves with Myley and we did a rendition of 'in the jungle'. We then sent the women out and served the children up with a proper party food plate of crisps, biscuits, cake, rice, maoams, potatoes and pork which they devoured..never heard them so silent! When they'd finished we went outside and played Garbedy Garbedy (the Nepali British bulldog game) with the women which was so funny with us all rolling around on the floor and grabbing eachother. The whole carpet factory joined in too so it was a proper mass party with people in surrounding buildings sitting on their balconies to watch. We then ate with the women and my god I have never eaten so much EVER. They'd cooked potatoes, beans, pork, rice and pickle and it was SOOO HOT! My tongue was on fire and I was burning up in the tiny little room with the door closed to keep the kids out and Kamala (one of my women) draped across me as she ate. She also insisted on putting everything on my plate..2 slices of cake, more rice, more pork and I quickly learnt to eat slowly so there were no gaps on my plate! She ate an entire bowl of the stuff and all my left overs whilst I was lobster red and dying!! She tried feeding me cake to cool my tongue down but it didn't really work..! The women all found it hilarious..we're so so full as we didn't want to be rude and leave too much but wowee don't feel like spicy food anytime soon. We then had a zillion pictures taken of us and the women by everyone in the factory on phones and cameras and our faces were covered by red powder. We had two silk scarves draped around us and were hugged and kissed by everyone. We'd made every woman a bracelet of two colours matching their teacher's colours (mine were green and blue) and they loved those :) I'm not talented in the bracelet department as my fellow volunteers would be quick to point out!!!
We're now lying back at the camp rubbing our sore stomachs and contemplating our futures. Gotta love life in crazy Kathmandu!
Lots of love,
