So I think it's fair to say I have done my quota of sleeper trains in the last three weeks. As if to prove a point at how lucky us British lot are the train took 16 hours to arrive instead of the 13 it was due to take. However, who even cares when you are about to cross the border into Hong Kong!!
So nothing else could go wrong because it's the last day of the trip. HA. obviously not because this is me and when does it ever go to plan? Soooo, I get out of mainland China! Didn't lose that really important piece of paper I was given three weeks ago (I didn't realise it was important or that I even still had it until about 11pm last night!). So yeah that is always handy and then after a little stroll through a tunnel I am at the border for Hong Kong! BUZZING.
Filled out my third arrival and departure card and got in the queue. Right, remember all those times I joked about how my passport doesn't even look like me and that I would get stopped at immigration.. funny story - it happened! Wasn't all that funny though, got told to sit with all the illegals while my passport vanished and I tried not to look that guilty?! After about 20 minutes a guy came over with my passport (knew it was mine as no one else was anywhere near being British) and he just asked me if it was mine and let me go. No reason or anything. So I made him tell me and apparently their computers didn't like my chip! I can't wait to try get out of Hong Kong now. However, important life lesson here people, never joke about serious things. It's not funny when it happens to you!
After all that fuss and chaos I was finally in the place I was waiting for! You can imagine how smiley I was! As a group we didn't have a lot of time left so we went for our final group dinner and I tried a prawn. Quite exciting for me but I just felt so guilty.. As it goes, all I could imagine whilst eating this prawn was a goldfish. Yep, a goldfish. Don't ask me why but now I've come to terms with what happened I would probably eat some more..
We took a walk to the harbour to watch the light show. Oh My God. Walking up to the viewing bridge and seeing Hong Kong Central is just amazing. It was like shanghai but three or four times bigger! You just don't know where to look but it's crazy. Their electric bill must be gigantic! It was definately worth seeing though so it's another thing to tick of this bucket list! When we strolled back to the hotel, we stopped off at the night market which again is something everyone just has to experience, the atmosphere and buzz is just electric!
We continued the night back at the hotel. We got some beers and got our phones and tabs and got on Facebook! After three weeks of it being banned we could now legally get on it and we all friended each other! It's quite bittersweet as it's great that we are finished and now I get to continue travelling but we have all bonded and I genuinely feel like part of a family! I know I will see half of them in Thailand but still, they are definitely friends for life!
Now it's 2am and I have to go to bed, ready to explore Hong Kong properly with the britpack as we now like to refer to ourselves as.. yeah I know, awkward!
