Teithiau Phil Lovell Travels
We arrived back in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday for a one night stop off following our time in the Mekong Delta. This was our first longish bus journey here and it took three and a half hours to get to the main bus station a little outside the city. This cost a little over £2.00 each which included the transfer in a minibus to nearer Ho Chi Minh centre, to District 5. From there, our ten minute taxi ride to our hotel cost us a little over £1. Taxis here are paid according to the dashboard clock...so you don't get fleeced. An afternoon snooze ensued in our upgraded family suite before we were walking again through the nearby park and streets. Firstly, we stopped at the famous Post Office and bought a few postcards with the intention of getting Caitlin to write a few lines before the day was out. With all of us ready for food, we weaved our way through the constant flow of motorbikes and mopeds to the "Hum" restaurant. This was our 2nd visit but this time we went for the full works. Spectacular vegetarian food. I've learnt though that bean curd is not near the top of my list of favourite foods. We left stuffed. We postponed any ideas of visiting the night market as excessive weariness was starting to hit us, well me in particular. We took the most direct path to the Edenstar but did stop to watch Caitlin perform on one of the outdoor exercise machines as scores of city dwellers were twisting and turning and contorting numerous body parts on nearby apparatuses. Back in the hotel room, I was soon asleep and had a sound nine hours completed before the alarm went a little after six. It was a case of no more "good morning Vietnams" for almost two weeks as we had a flight to catch for Siem Reap, Cambodia leaving at midday.
