Hi guys! Well i guess its that time again when i brag about what i´ve been upto the last few weeks. Our last couple weeks in New Zealand were pretty cool and gorgeous scenery as always. Went to a scottish city called Dunedin where i went to the beach spotting seals and penguins which turned out to be quite entertaining as the scottish winds were upto 150km an hour and the poor little penguins could barely stand up, let alone us!! Visited Mt Cook and Lake Tekapo which were absolutly stunning and did some good trekking around that area. Also went swimming in the ocean with dusky dolphins in Kaikoura which was pretty incredible. They get so close to you and if your lucky they come right up to you and start circling you, very cool! We then hopped back up to the north island where we stayed in a little coastal town called Raglan and learned to surf for a few days. Unlucky for us this was at the time when a massive storm was about to hit New Zealand so the waves got pretty crazy but we battled on and did ourselves proud. We think?!
Our time then came to begin the South America leg of our trip. Flew into San Tiago (Chile) and stayed there for a while taking spanish lessons. Quite a cool city and the cleanest south america has offer apparently, although theres so much smog that from the top of the hill you cant actaully see the city! Still struggling with the spanish, we can just about get ourselves around alright, but hoping after 5 months this will have improved!! The useful phrase ´no entiendo´ - í dont understand´ usually helps us out of most situations! Weve been in Chile 2 and a half weeks now, and off to Peru tomorrow. Chile has been a little bit of a let down to be honest. I think the most spectacular things are in the south but as were heading north for Peru we had to miss this all out. The country is lovely and so are the people, but has been lacking in actual stuff to do. A little town called San Pedro in the Atacama desert has been the highlight of Chile. Probably a tad over touristed but the desert scenery was amazing, with geuzers, oasis, valleys and salt formations everywhere, ive never seen anything like it and we had a go at sandboarding which was so much fun, definatly going to be having another go at that sometime. Also did some horse riding through the desert which was pretty sureal as we felt like we were in a movie or something!
Despite Chile being slightly disopointing i still wake up every morning grateful that im not in Yeovil! I hear the weather has been pretty pants for you all this summer. No suprises there but hope things improve for you all! Gutted to have missed Glastonbury this year but hope everyone who went had an awesome time.
Lots of love to you all,
Amy xxx
