After just 3 hours sleep we were up ready to head to Isla Damas for our boat trip to the penguin reserve. We boarded our boat which took us to the first island. We could disembark here but were guided around the edge of the island looking at the different birds, sea lions, sea otters and best of all penguins! We arrived early in La Serena and luckily found a hostel quite quickly considering we had both forgotten to book one the night before! We went for a walk to discover what the city had to offer but at 9am it was very quiet and there were few people around. We decided to visit a museum which was small but interesting and had one of the stone carvings from Easter island on display. This morning disappointed by our inability to go sand boarding we had a bit of a lie in and then went into town for a wander. I sorted out some of my photos in an Internet cafe and Browny treated herself to a milkshake. After we went for lunch - chicken lasagne, this was really good and filled us right up before our bus to la serena. In the morning we booked a tour with our hostel to go sandboarding in the afternoon and also booked a stargazing tour for the evening. This morning we finished our 3 day tour with an early 5am wake up. The hostel was so cold we hadn't had much sleep at all and were feeling a bit sorry for ourselves! The pancakes and dulce de leche for breakfast certainly brightened up the morning slightly though!
