I'm glad that this was the first place we stayed at in Peru… a lovely city with Plaza's and cathedrals everywhere, a really nice beautiful place. We stayed at a newly opened hostel called The Wild Rover, an Irish run hostel with brand new everything, Beds, Pillows, Quilts etc… so extremely comfortable. The bar was always pumping with good food and cheap beer and it had made huge party plans for New Years Eve. This was going to be our hub for the next few days.
We knew of quite a few fellow traveller friends that were going to be in Cusco for New Years Eve (most staying at The Wild Rover) Our first night was to meet up with Del and Linda a nice Scottish couple who'd we'd met in Buenos Aires. After some nice dinner and 10 Mojitos each we staggered to a night club called Mothology and carried on enjoying a really wicked night… a good warm up for New Years Eve!! Was really good to catch up and will definitely meet up with them again back in the UK.
Up steps New Years Eve and what a night this was going to be! With the theme of the night being the colour Yellow all the stalls in the streets were selling everything yellow from bandanas to wristbands to glasses and hats… the whole town was yellow! Not to forget the masses of fireworks sold… I didn't know where they were going to put them all.
After a heavy night before we had an afternoon siesta (something we've become accustom too recently), we was woke up by everyone in the bar starting the countdown 10..9..8..7.. s*** we've missed new year! Quickly checked the time…phew…was NYE for England & luckily we are 5hrs behind!! Donning our yellow outfits & facepaint we were ready for the celebrations. Few drinks in Wild Rover then off the to the Plaza for midnight fireworks. Organized display…anything but! Every man & his 3 year old was letting rockets off in every direction, we had to run for cover so not to get hit. Was another crazy amazing night. Think detox is in order now for the next couple of days before the Inca Trail!!
