All is well. We are safe and happy in Ecuador!
The journey to Ecuador was the longest door-to-door trip that either of us have ever taken. It took 49 hours for us to get from take off in Portland to touch down in Baltra on Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands! We managed to spend all 49 hours inside an airplane or an airport. 24 of those hours were at the Miami airport due to a combination of delays based on weather and incompetence of American Airlines.
Our stay at the Miami airport was a special kind of adventure that involved a 3 hour wait in a line for no reason that resulted in a woman having a complete break down which led to EMT's showing up and putting her on an IV and oxygen, another person screaming at the ticketing agent, and 4 Miami Dade police officers showing up! After all of that chaos we got drinks before literally setting up camp at a random gate for the night.
The next day we finally made our way to Ecuador and out to the Galapagos Islands. It was amazing to get off of the plane and into the fresh island air (especially after 49 hours inside). We rode the packed bus into the town of Puerto Ayora where we felt a little unsure of where we would get off of the bus. We chose to get off at a point that seemed to be the center of town. And low and behold, there was Vince! What a relief! Our journey to Ecuador was a success, now on to the sights of Galapagos!
Photos to follow of our journey. And another post about our first two days on Galapagos as soon as we can get a decent internet connection.

Justin The airport ordeal sounds terrible. On the bright side, with the way you are traveling, you are well prepared to set up anywhere you must. Stay safe and enjoy the time off!
Lynn Shannon I can empathasize. It took exactly 49 hours to get home from a volcano on Java but it involved buses, and ferries, as well as delays. I was so tired I fell asleep on the plane while the passengers were boarding and the flight attendant had to physically remove me from my seat so the other passengers could board in my row-haha. But it is well worth it. Let the adventure begin!
Adam & Genny Just remember that although these hiccups can be tough to go through in the moment, they add character to your trip. Stories like these, you will tell for a long time, and later with a smile. It's all part of the journey.
Kirk Snyder "After all of that chaos we got drinks..." All's well that ends well. Looking forward to following along with you guys.
