Day 4: Our second day of cycling around the Sukhothai old kingdom temples, this time outside the walls of the historic national park. Once again, the spectacular ruins of chedis donning elephants, enormous Buddha statues and steep staircases stole the show.
Even with the glaring heat of the sun and the dampening humidity, the beauty of the old structures (and the excitement of our bicycle adventures) could not be quashed.
Before returning our bicycles, we stopped off to see Buddha's Footprint, a nice little park with a temple that enshrines the footprint of Buddha. Another fish feeding area amused children and adults alike and the proverbs surrounding us were a nice reminder to lead an honest and humble life.
To end the day, another swim in the pool and then out again for some food and drink. First a couple of pre-dinner drinks at Bar64000 (80 baht each = $3.50!) as we watched the world go by, then a fabulous noodle dish ($1.20/meal AUD) by a street vendor. Finished off with a few charcoal grilled skewers from another street vendor - chicken hearts, chicken, pork and an amazing pork mince sausage). To bed and (as with most of our trip so far) almost instantly asleep. This day was a very good day!
