So we left Chumphon by the ferry port which was crazy, filled with hundreds of other travellers all leaving for various islands. We'd chosen the speed catamaran which was clean and comfortable and most importantly for Katy sold baguettes and Pringles.. No noodles or random soups or things with fish heads in.. Standard cheese baguettes.. The joy was overwhelming..although soon replaced with sea sickness. Just about made it off the boat with no vomit and were soon on the back of our diving school truck and delivered at reception where we somehow agreed to start the course in an hours time. After checking into our room we had our first introduction to scuba; a two hour cheesy American video about diving and fish. Second day more video, homework and some pool practice.. Then some beers with our classmates. Our 3rd day was our first in the sea but due to difficulty equalising our ears we had to re surface and leave the rest of the group.. Was a big low point but thankfully our instructor gave us a catch up later that day and we did our dive back to shore from the boat, was pretty cool swimming up to all the beach bars. So on day 4 we did our exam and final dive to qualify followed by lots of drinking to celebrate.. Which ended in a mission to find a bar that involved wading through the sea and then kind of fades into a blur but came home soaking wet covered in sand having eaten 2 amazing crepes outside a 7 Eleven. Sunday was our first day off since arriving on the island so us and a few of the other people from our course decided to hire some canoes to go in search of an Island we'd heard off (no weren't given a map by a mad Scott's man called Daffy). 30 mins later, our canoe miles behind the others, lots of water on board and some very heated discussions between its two crew members regarding paddling technique..morale was not good and we were starting to wonder if this island was worth the trouble, 15 mins later we arrived at the beautiful Naguahn island which is a causeway of sand and washed up coral with sea either side surrounded by huge boulders and green jungle. The snorkelling was just amazing, crystal clear water and hundreds of brightly coloured fish, sea urchins and coral. We finally got to try out our underwater camera and took loads of pics and videos. After snorkelling we all decided to follow a sign that pointed to a View Point which lead us along wooden walkways through the rocks and then up a steep staircase into the jungle, after 20 mins the steps became huge rocks a few injures later we made it to the top.. After taking in the amazing view we headed back down to the boats as the sun was setting. Another choppy journey back but a beautiful view of the sun going down and some flying fish swimming alongside our boat!
