Right so we booked this hop-on hop-off bus from Hanoi to Saigon where you can basically stop at places on the way for a while and then jump back on the bus. It all sounded pretty good and so we planned to stop in a place called Hoi An based on a recommendation from people we met on our Halong Bay tour, and then Na Trang for some long awaited beach time. What we didn't know wasthat you have to book each leg of your trip in advance because there's so many people doing the same thing. So after the initial overnight leg the bus pulled up at a place called Hue for what we thought would be a brief stop before heading onward to Hoi An. But then all of a sudden we couldn't get back on the f***ing bus because it had been booked up so we had to spend an unplanned day in Hue and catch the next bus in the evening. What an unbelievable pain in the arse because not only did we lose time we don't have but Hue wasn't great. We went to the main attraction, the citadel, which is basically an extravegant temple complex surrounded by a moat and a massive wall, but it really wasn't that impressive. Plus it was heaving it down with rain. The only saving grace of that day was eating twice in this really cool resaurant with great food and walls covered with messages from travellers that of course we added to. When we finally got back on the bus and reached Hoi An, we found to our utter dismay that the bus the next day to Nha Trang was full so we had to leave the day after. That meant we had to skip Nha Trang and go all the way to Saigon. What an almighty f*** up, escpecially seeing as Hoi An was r-u-b-b-i-s-h, and we had to spend to f-ing days there! Unbelievable. I mean it's a nice qaint little village for couples and old people, but we've been to places like that before and still managed to find stuff to do. But even the lonely planet guide was struggling come up with things to see. In fact it's a great place if you want a custom made suit, which obviousley we didn't although I was considering it just to justify us being there. I mean we saw an old bridge and went to the market, that's pretty much it. So we basically spent our 2 days there catching up with things on the net and eating a s*** load of food.We did go to a fairly lively bar one night where we played pool with the locals which was pretty cool although we did get screwed.I mean I'm piss-poor at pool and generally try to avoid it as not to arouse my temperament, but me and Ben managed to beat a pair who were clearly better than us the very first game. So having let that go to our heads we played another pair for some beers and managed to lose even though one of them could barely hold the cue he was so hammered. It was pretty embarassing. But after graciously buying them their beers, we played them again and won and the f***ers didn't buy us any. Scamming b******s. Anyway so we got back on the bus 2 fairly uneventful days later. On the way to Saigon we stopped for re-fueling and breakfast inNha Trang of all places just to rub it in. So we sat therein the glorious sun looking at this palm tree lined beach front feely incredibly sorry for oursleves and wondering what could have been. Ah well s*** happens ay when you're travlling for this long occasionally stuff won't work out. So we put it behind us quick and reached Saigon with our game faces on seeing as once again we had to do as much as we could in a day. Anyway these long-haul bus rides are getting really f***ing old and I can't wait to sit on a plane and then hopefully drive around in Sydney if my cousin will give up her car. She better.
