ok, we have been a little slow to update the blog but sometimes the life of a traveller is busy, busy.
The last time we wrote we were heading back to the west coast to escape the endless snow, which became rain, rain, rain. On route to San Francisco we went to the Redwood National Park which should be at the top of every visitor to the USA's 'to see' list. The Redwoods cover a really large area and at one point we spent 30 miles driving through the trees. They are huge and ancient and seem like you are in an enchanted forest.
San Francisco is a very layed back town. Great food and funky bars. Alcatraz was touristy but well worth it, so much history. Fishermans Wharf is fun, albeit super expensive... although worth it just to see the seals. In all our time in the USA San Francisco was an oddity in that everybody there wasn't endlessly McHappy.
From San Fran we headed south to Los Angeles again via Yosemite - which would be exceptionally pretty if the million (ok maybe not that many) other campers weren't there. We couldn't even get a spot in the Valley mid week, off season, but lucked a great site down the river.
Sequoia National Park was next where we visited General Grant (words fattest tree) & General Sherman (worlds heaviest tree). Huge Sequoias which are related but quite different to the Redwoods in the 'Rewdwood NP' up in the North of California.
Finally back to Los Angeles to complete the circle where we ticked the list: Rodeo Drive, Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills, Venice Beach, Hollywood and then out of there again as fast as we could!
New York, New York... Wow! This is not a city, it is The City & we loved every moment of the place. Anything on tap, any time, anywhere... except peace & quiet. Although the skyscrapers seem to extend forever, it is one of the easiest and friendliest cities to get around. We walked the length & breadth of Manhatten Island; Central Park, Famous Buildings (chrysler, empire state, the rock, UN), times square, Statue of Liberty, from afar, Wall St (strangely quiet). Great fun & food - we'll be back to this one.
Ok, to be honest we are actually in France right now, but as far as the blog is concerned we are off to London.... tune in soon for European adventures
