Well I would do a lovely blog about Don Det but it would probably be the most boring blog ever!! Sleep, drink, eat, hammock, cycle, sleep, hammock, eat, drink. Etc etc.
As that suggests we didn't do an awful lot and that was the plan. We caught up on blogs & photos from the Stray journeys, we hired bicycles to ride around the island (a whole 1hr!). We did cycle to the next island as there is a bridge that adjoins the two. The 1st attempt at this wasnt great as after seeing a lovely waterfall and a quick pause at a "beach" Sy duffed his toe up pretty good. After makeshift covering of the open wound we went home to dress it properly!
This led to another few days in hammocks resting before we attempted the trip again. We managed it on our last day and headed to the opposite end of Don Khon to take a boat out to see the dolphins. These are rare Irrawaddy dolphins, in Laos & Cambodia there are estimated to be 70-90 left and in the bay we're visiting only 20. We saw 7 so pretty good we thought! In order to see them we had to enter Cambodian waters so had to pass a couple of dollars each to the guards as we have no visa for Cambodia! For just over 45 mins we were sneaky illegal immigrants!! Tomorrow however, we will be entering for real as we move onwards.
Early start at 8am for what we knew was going to be a really long day, the bus was listed to get in at 7:30 but we were warned that it would probably be nearer 10pm!!
The border crossing was relatively painless and for all the warnings we managed to get the 168 bus direct from Don Det to Phnom Penh. We entered 'quarantine' on the border point where we had a temperature gun pointed at our neck. Bit random but I think I was normal at 36.7!!! A local I was speaking to on the bus said the bus normally gets in around 8:30-9 so we entertained ourselves until we finally arrived & made it to the hostel.
