There are not words to express the wonder that is Iguazú Falls. I´ve always loved waterfalls, and I´ve been mildly obsessed with the idea of going to Iguazú ever since my aunt and uncle went there over 10 years ago. I was not disappointed.
We spent 3 days in Iguazú, and I´m glad we had that much time. It allowed us to roam on all of the paths around the park and see the hundreds of falls from every possible angle. Just when you think you couldn´t possibly be impressed by another waterfall, you round a corner and the lightning, the angle, and framing by the jungle trees, takes your breath away yet again. Iguazú is very jungly. We saw coati mundi, monkeys, several types of lizzards, an armadillo, many birds, and plenty of insects without really having to try. It was hot and unbelievably humid- several showers a day were in order type of place. When you look out from the neat boardwalks that the park service has so graciously installed, you wonder how anyone ever found this place. The jungle is so thick it seems that not even a cat could find its way through the branches.
The main attraction, and rightly so, is the devil´s throat waterfall. Our Lonely Planet aptly describes it as the place on earth that must most approximante what Christopher Columbus would have found if the earth were indeed flat and he had sailed right off it. It seems that whole oceans of water manage to cascade down the fall every few minutes. What was most suprising to me, however, was the water on top. It was almost perfectly calm. There was no warning whatsoever that the world´s largest fall lay mere feet away.
Also while in Iguazú, we celebrated Douglas´s birthday. I can´t imagine a more beautiful place to complete 26 years!
