Brisbane wasnt so great due to weather which was a shame. The boys dropped me off at my hostel and I headed straight for the shower. I made some tea and had an early night in with my mingy face!
Saturday was Australia Day. most people were out in the pub early, I spent 2 hours in doctors waiting room to get confirmation that i had impetigo. $108 i had five days worth if antibiotics and some cream (which i was supposed to use for 2weeks. i ran out after 6days.)
I slathered on the cream and headed to town for some window shopping and lunch. Brisbane is quite like the bullring I thought. I stumbled across an Irish bar and had a delicious steak sandwich, no Guinness though, listened to the band then ventured back to my hostel.
There was a tv in my dorm which was a first. I was quite happy watching an Australia quiz show on my tod when the German girl came in, changed the channel to CSI Miami and asked 'you like it' I said, 'yes, it's alright. but I was quite happy watching the other show' she looked rather shocked and disgusted at me and turned it back over. back in your box Germany.
The two girls from Essex came up to the room, they'd been on the pop all day and were ready for bed, it was nearly 9pm. we all chatted, got in to bed and started watching 'Australia' I didn't know it was such a long film, I don't think I managed to stay awake for half of it. what I did see was good though!
On Sunday it was STILL raining. we watched the news in our room, it was all floods floods floods. most of it happening outside our window. rather depressing. nonetheless I needed to activate my train ticket so back to town I go. the office wasn't open til 1.30 so I decided to venture in to town to check the cinema times as i was going to catch up with Nank's who was staying with family in the suburbs. I rang through with the times but we decided we both ought to stay put else we'd get stranded; it really was bucketing down!
I trudged back to the station trying to decide which way to point my brolly so I could still see where I was going without getting wet or the brolly turning inside out in the gale force winds! it made the short walk rather difficult! I sorted my ticket out to leave the following morning. I had originally bought the ticket with the intention of hopping on and off en route to Sydney, stopping at surfers paradise and Byron bay and anywhere else I fancied. however the weather was so vile I decided to power straight on down to Sydney. bit gutted about this and it cost me much more but there was really no point visiting when the weather was like this!
I got the shuttle bus back to the hostel, not wanting to sit in my room again til bed time I decided go wander to town for a late lunch. I found a really cool bar with more live music and more yummy steak, my variety of food was becoming much like Dickons! not that I'm complaining! the restaurant also had free wifi, always a bonus! on the way home I passed a tree that had blown down, luckily no one was underneath it. although, back in my room I was talking to the two Danish girls and they said they walked passed it then it fell down right behind them! crumbs!!
All fed up with the weather, myself, the two Danish girls and a kiwi girl went to the cinema to watch The Impossible, the film about the tsunami...seemed rather fitting! the tickets were only $7 and icecreams were $3. so much cheaper than back home. although they only have salted popcorn, they looked at me like a had 3 heads when I asked for sweet!
The film was good although I think because you know the ending before it's begun it's hard to get emotional about it all, just more curious!
I was at the train station at 6am ready for my 6.30 train. I found a Philippa Gregory (The Other Queen) book in the stations book shop so was now looking forward to the journey.
The weather was still grey but it was a relief to be driving away from the storms. the countryside was beautiful as hoped although very flooded in places, reminding me of home!
At lunch time I headed to the buffet car to get some food. as I was waiting in the queue I looked down at the people queueing from the other end if the train. well well, look who it is...Woolley and Bostock!! I thought they'd caught the train yesterday and I wasn't planning on heading south til later in the week. I got my food and went to visit them...in the first class cabin! those two never fail to amuse me! An hour flew by and we were interrupted by the ticket officer who told me I would have to pay to sit in there or leave in 10minutes. I left after 10 minutes. I went back to my seat, read some of my book and had a snooze then went to see the boys again with cups of tea. I headed back to my poor mans chair for a couple more hours then went back to see them. as it was now 8pm and the train was an hour and a half delayed I took my bag with me and stayed put.
When we finally arrived in Sydney we realised we'd travelled all of the east coast together. totes emosh! we now had to go our seperate ways; the boys were off to New Zealand on the kiwi bus (they got on the bus and were net by a few other harper lads! bloody farmers!) I was going to stay with Katie, who I'd met at the whitsundays. By the time I reached Katie's it was midnight! so happy to be back in Sydney though, it felt just like home :-)
