Very kool and well worth taking my big bag so I could stay a night up in the mountains. My tight neighbours schedule meant that I had to plan my trip well so after the day in Sydney I jumped on the train to Katoomba which is about 2hours outside of the city. I think you can do tours and things but I prefer to find my own way these days. The town is lovely lots of bakeries and small town shops to look around in. Checked in to the hostel which is officially the nicest hostel I have stayed in so far, huge, and full of some kids on karate camp, families, and a bunch of other people. It was like being at home as there were mums telling kids off all over the place. Met up with a a few other people and decided to go for a bush walk, a german, a dutch guy, and a canadian- very international. Its kool. The walk took us past really lovely waterfalls, through the bush, up some cliffs, with a view of the Three sisters (3 peaks called suzie sophie and kelly) and up to echo point. Took some kool pictures of us in waterfalls and sitting with our legs hanging over the side of a cliff. Not the safest place to sit. The view was stunning and its true there is a blue-ish mist that hangs over the moutains- hence the name! After 4.5 hours we were getting a bit tired but we had done the whole walk and were feeling pretty impressed with ourselves. Luckily it wasnt too hot and your in the shade most of the time so its nice. Guess what they've put at the end of the trek on the way home...a chocolate shop... how perfect is that. Nice chocolate too... not the australian cadburys type which doesnt taste like chocolate for one of two reasons because a. it doesnt contains enough coco solids or b. because it contains a wax ingredient to prevent it from melting in the hot weather. Either way it tastes funny, but this was lovely and the free samples gave me enough energy for the walk home! Hooray.
That evening tried my best to watch neighbours on the huge screen TV in the hostel. Turns out a couple of girls wanted to watch American Pie- a stupid horrendous film which is on in every hostel I go into! Go away! Anyway I changed the channel while they were setting up the film and as fate would have it I think I broke the tellie so it got stuck on neighbours for the best part of 1/2 hour. YAY!!! Don't think I was the most popular peron and the Norweigian girls weren't very impressed but hey I was happy!. Apart from having to duck around them to watch the screen I saw most of it...(can't remember enough to update now)...but... then some german guy came and fixed the tellie just before the end-I was gutted! I left defeated! Germany 1 England 0! So after nearly 4 weeks in australia I have managed to watch Neighbours only 3 or 4 times and never without interuptions or missing the intro! Must try harder!
Well tommorrow is neighbours night and after my 12hour bus ride to MElbourne 2night it better be worth it!!!! Jo and MIkey are coming too which is kool. Have also just met some guy in the interent cafe whos gona be there too. Lol, small world! Can't wait. Will be knakerd!
Got the train back y'day to sydney and did some more tourist stuff - walked across the bridge and back, saw the rocks (yes dad very nice) and was a bit indulgent as I went to see a show at the sydney opera house. Not an opera or a ballet or anything too cultural, but Babes in the Wood! Was very good, can't say I understood all the political jokes but did pick up some things,... they don't like Bush (does anyone?), they arn't a big fan of their prime minister, they like the queen, they love australia, but not so much tasmania! The show consisted off, a scene of steve irwin singing 'I wana die doing the things I love' (stingrays dancing around him on stage), and Germaine Greher being killed by a sting ray- not sure what she said about Steve... and a scene which was maybe slightly below the belt... a Muslim terrorist holding a bomb waddling around the stage!! Apparently they reckon they are too far away from anywhere and can say what they like... turns out their right, it is pretty far from anywhere.... anyway lov it! Aussie Rules!
Bondi Beach now- and I will not buy the expensive bikini which I saw the other day! Love suz xxx
