Another sleepy start this morning, we woke up at 830 but managed to make it out the door by 9. No breakfast included at this place so we snacked on granola bars and some fruit and went straight to the cliffs of Moher a quick 10 minute drive away from Doolin. This was the place that I was most excited for and it did not disappoint. The view was incredible and since we were there pretty early we managed to avoid the big crowds. I walked around in a daze while Dan took some pictures, and around 10 the buses started showing up so we left.
Quick stop in Liscannor just down the road for some pastries and OJ for breakfast, and a baguette and cold cuts for lunch then we were on our way to Baltimore. This was the longest drive planned, google maps had the time at just over 3 hours but it took us about 5.
The drive from Liscannor to limerick was very quick and Dan was pleased to see multiple lanes and dividers. We skirted around limerick and took another highway south to Cork but got off at Mallow and started angling southwest on smaller regional roads. Lunch was a simple affair, we made sandwiches by the side of the road with a view of farmhouses and rolling hills.
At some point we took the wrong road and ended up on a back country road with no names or signs but we were still heading in the right direction and it was beautiful so we just kept going and by a happy mistake ended up in a town about 50km east of our destination. We decided to take the nice highway west instead of the coastal road again and 45 minutes later we arrived in Baltimore (right around 3 pm). It is another tiny town, but just as beautiful. The Main Street is right by the water, and our b&b is a little outside of the town but facing the bay so we have a gorgeous view of the area. We were a little early for dinner still so we snacked on the rest of the bread and some fruit and drove a short way to a scenic viewpoint on the other side of the town. We got there and as soon as we got out of the car it started pouring rain for the 6th time today. I ran back to the car but Dan braved the rain and walked up a little path to the top of the hill and got some great pictures. He got back in the car soaked and just in time for the hail to start.
We started driving back to the town and gave a lift to a Korean girl who is living here on an exchange and had walked up to the point. She was getting soaked so she hopped in and we dropped her off back on the main road. We went back to our room for a little while and didn't nap! Around 645 we started getting hungry and headed to Casey's for dinner. In a fishing town you cannot go wrong with the seafood chowder and fish and chips, both were delicious.
At this point the sun was setting and we were full so we drove back to our place and watched a little of the sunset before heading back inside and lounging around. No nap means an early night so we should also set out early tomorrow morning for our last day in Ireland!
