On the way to the border we had to stop as there were riots in the road ahead. We thought they were political but Vernon (our guide) found out they were about football of all things! It was a fairly scary experience - we were told to sit down, put our seat belts on and keep the windows shut. There were men blocking the road up front and burning tyres. The police then turned up and fired warning shots which made all the protesters scatter so that we could safely drive though. I had a mini metdown when I saw my fellow travellers trying to take photos of the riots and police, scared that our memory cards would be taken off us but thankfully no one got caught! We followed a police jeep through to the other side. Once through the mess with the windows open we all sighed with relief!
Not long later we got to the border and experienced another straight forward crossing, not even having to get off the truck on the Zambian side. A short drive later we got some cash out of the ATM and some supplies (including some much needed new pants for us both!).
At the camp site I relaxed by the pool for a while watching the others frollocking in the freezing water and then showered before a delicious dinner of roast lamb and all the trimmings. After some ice cream (the dregs that were left after the greedy lot from the bunch had finished!) and a glass of wine, we retired to bed early ready for tomorrow's long drive.
