We got up early AGAIN and headed for the border via the usual shop stop. We were soon at the border and crossed into South Africa with unbelievable ease - probably the quickest border crossing we have done.
It was only about a 15 minute drive until we got to camp, so we were pitched really early. It was a small camp area so all our tents were really close together but it seemed kind of fitting for our last night under canvas!
We ate a delicious lunch of cous cous and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing. no one was interested in the canoeing so we all hung around trying to keep cool and out of the sun. Some people went swimming in the river but the very strong undercurrent put me off.
Having a shower was an experience here (as was going to the loo) because the cubicles were made of bamboo. This meant you could see over the top and hear everything outside - very strange!
After a shower we headed to the bar for dinner prepared by the camp site staff due to our truck having had a thorough clean during the day. It was a good local meal of chicken, nshima, sweet potatoes and veg - Yum! We spent a short while in the bar but got into our sleeping bags fairly early due to the very early start and long drive due the next day.
It was a weird feeling knowing it was our last night in the tent after 6 weeks of camping in the African bush!
Our last breakfast at the truck was in the dark! We also made packed lunch ready for the long journey to Cape Town. We happily put down our tents for the last time and clambered into the truck for our final journey in Africa!
Lots of love xxx
