We made it out of Nepal! Arrived in Delhi and staying at the Holiday Inn. Leaving Nepal brings mixed feelings. Of course I'm happy because it means we are safe and sound (and I've made my mama very happy). But it's difficult to reconcile the joy we feel in leaving such a devastated country, able to fly so (relatively) easily to India, and stay at a nice hotel, when people are not only unable to get out, but are not receiving basic food, water, shelter. Today the weather cooperated and after our breakfast of dry bread with boiled eggs we set out for Pashupatinath, a holy site on the river, where they cremate the dead, openly, where not just family, but the public, can witness. The walk was long, dusty, and hot. The city has certainly become more lively over the last three days we've been here. More shops are opening and many more cars and bikes are on the road. Still though, I would say it is only about 10-15%...

Well today was uneventful up until just now. We slept in and had our hotel breakfast of two pieces of white bread and a hard-boiled egg. Must say we were grateful and ate it but don't try it at home, at least not without water. It's dry and you are apt to choke on it. After breakfast we laid in bed and relaxed. Again we woke early this morning with the prospect of flying out of Lukla, to Kathmandu, and then eventually out of Nepal. We packed our bags and waited, and waited, and waited. A few hours later, at 730, we were informed all flights were cancelled today. We weren't sure what to do. The weather forecasted clear(ish) skies today with rain and snow the next four in a row, which meant if we didn't get out to Kathmandu today, who knows how long it could be! Last nig...

We were told to be at the airport at 5:45 for our flight. After waking from a fitful and nervous sleep, we packed with the hopefulness of departure. Nope, flights cancelled, due to inclement weather. We had breakfast and went for a walk. While at the airport I saw several tourists standing on the Tarmac with medical bags.
