Hello,
Usual apologies for long delay..having too much fun I'm afraid.
Peru was fantastic. The ride to Cusco could not have been more beautiful. In the most stunning scenery possible, I was riding my motorbike amongst galloping wild horses along a winding mountain track wishing I'd had a helmet video camera.
The city of Cusco was a welcome break from the very rustic (but little charm) mountain villages. However I arrived in time to see the incredible Summer Solstice festival and the less incredible World Cup.
Visited Machu Picchu which was undoubtedly the most breathtaking setting for any ruin I have seen. Tranquil, fresh and awe inspiring.
I then left to head to Lima crossing the beautiful desert and the Nazca lines ( ancient markings/drawings on the desert bed).
Long loooong ride to Lima up the Pacific coastline accompanied by the usual fog and insane Peruvian drivers.
I arrived in Lima and headed straight to 'Automotores Gildemeister' the best BMW dealer in Peru where I had the bike serviced. I was extremely well looked after by Jose' Robles(who speaks perfect English) and the entire team. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you very much everybody there.
I then crossed the border into Bolivia which is where I am now.
I ended up riding the imfamous 'most dangerous road in the world' which frankly was tame in comparision to some of the mountain passes I have crept along already in Peru.
Unfortunately it seems my rear wheel bearings have finally been beaten in to submission and I have had to send my bike North to the BMW dealer in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, for repair. The last I saw of my bike it was wobbling about on the back of the only truck I could find and which rather worringly had European number plates !!!
So I'm now Sucre' ,bike less and rather nervous I may never see it again ...I'll let you know.
If we are ever reunited I'll be heading in to Brazil for some warmth after the Andean chill across to Chile for a few weeks and then down through Argentina for December.
Bye for now,
Mark xxx.
