Annabel's Amazing Adventures (nah nah nah nah naaa
We've stopped off at Rotorua for a couple of sleeps.
Today before we left Waitomo we went Black Water Rafting in the glowworm caves which was great fun but unbelievably cold. The water was freezing despite the wet suits but certainly an adventure for 2 main reasons. Firstly is that about half an hour in I had desperate need for a device known as the 'toilet'. The second reason is that our guide (who handily forgot his own rubber tube so had to hang off of my legs for part of the trip lol) kept jumping out at us at various times. Most of the trip was made in the dark because of the glowworms so this was a very easy thing to do - go underwater, swim up behind us, scream, make loud noises.... You name it. Jen and Emma loved it but it scared the bejeezers out of me (partly the reason for premature loo-needing). I was more scared than I was when I watched The Ring for the first time. Had very much the same reaction too - in case you were wondering.
A bonus was that because of the cold we stopped to have a hot drink in the caves. Down there we also saw some impressive rock formations, saw glowworms (and got a free pass to the museum) and slid down a couple of waterfalls. Later we even got a free lunch so all in all I had a very good day. The trip down to the caves in the van was another mini adventure. It was quite rocky and I managed to bounce five inches of the seat and bang my head on the ceiling!
Tomorrow we've booked to go to the thermal pools and geysers and there are free workshops available to learn more about Maori tribe life. Also we're gonna go up a gondola for some pretty views, so I look forward to that. Then on Sunday we're off to the capitol Wellington. Ooooh!
I've been having trouble uploading pics up on here, but if you're interested in seeing some of Emma's visit her site on www.statraveljournals.com/emmasnzadventure
Otherwise, look after yourselves and enjoy the summer!
