Temperatures during the day are between 35 and 40 Celsius. The Strip is about 4 miles long I think. Each property (consisting of casino, hotel, shops, entertainment including signature theme entertainment) is roughly one block and some might share a block. A block is massive here and the properties are deep so a small front does not mean it is small inside. These place are 3 to 4 times the size of Sun City Entertainment Centre.
Traffic is really heavy and the intersections are massive (5-6 lanes from each side) so getting from one property to the next can take a few minutes. MGM own several of these properties and have trams running between those that are close to each other. There are also walkways with escalators over some of the intersections to allow people to move more easily from one property to the next.
Every property has a shopping section and the vast majority have top end shops only. They also have very nice interiors that follow the property theme.
I started to feel a lot better about the Vdara not being directly on the strip as it felt almost like I was staying at the Bellagio. This is roughly halfway up the strip so it is the centre and close to most things. It also had a tram line to other properties heading north. I bought a 3 day bus ticket for $20 on the the first day so I could use the Deuce and SDX busses which run up and down the strip 24 hours a day. Problem is that they get very full and with traffic they tend to take long to get you anywhere. The SDX is an express service so it is a little faster.
Caesars Palace is probably the premier entertainment place in my opinion. It has people like Celine Dion, Rod Stewart and Elton John playing there. There is also another property that had David Guetta, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki and Porter Robinson as regulars. The Luxor also seemed well done with the Egyptian theme. Riviera looked old and outdated.
Also went to Fremont Street on Saturday night. This is the old part of the Strip and about 30-40 minutes bus ride away. It was worth it for the light display they have every night they were having free concerts as well. A couple of hours is enough there, but it is a must do in my opinion.
Las Vegas also has outlet malls so I took the bus to the mall and bought new Reebok running shoes to use.
