Expedition Robinson

My last night in Nadi I enjoyed very much. Diane and I went to the marina for dinner and had some wonderful curry at an Indian restaurant there. After we had one last drink at Nadi Hard Rock cafe and then went back to the hotel. The next morning I left on the Yasawa flyer for the Yasawas: first stop Waya Lalai Eco Tour Resort. I actually wonder if they have any idea what eco tourism means. 75 % of the proceeds go to the local community, but for the rest it means that it's basic. When we were dropped of the boat in the middle of the coral reef I felt like I ended up in Expedition Robinson (or Survivor as that might be called in other countries).

The dorm ' bure' (=traditional hut) was very nice and I have never slept so well as on the islands. In the evening I went for a hike to the top of the island which was spectacular. After dinner we drank kava with the locals, but it tastes like Amsterdam canal water, very earthy and it makes your tongue go numb. It's the national drink however, so one must drink it at least once!

The next morning I went snorkling. The reefs are all dead unfortunately, but there were sharks. They're Fijian so they're friendly, no worries!

My next destination was Korovou resort which is also supposed to be an eco resort. Here it meant the showers were not only cold, but didn't function at all. The Bula boys made it up that night with a hilarious show however. See video for details. At Korovou I went for a walk on the beach in the morning which lead me into crab village, another clip is posted. At night we were entertained by the Bula boys again and there was a bonfire at the other end of the beach. The nights were great for watching stars, saw the southern star including fifth star.

Now I'm back at Nadi and tomorrow I will leave for the Beach House near Suva. A great Bula to you all!!!
