Beverly Hills, friends from home and abroad, 'posh hotels', a tattoo and another parking ticket!
Hollywood, California
After experiencing the cool temperatures of Napa over the Thanksgiving period, that was enough of a reminder of what cold weather I'm to be welcomed by on my homecoming. Being a true sun worshiper it was time to return South as soon as possible and hit the 85F/30C temperatures of Los Angeles.
That's exactly what I did the day after thanksgiving. I returned to the base of my Californian trip which was Paul & Drew's place in Hollywood (thanks once again guys).
The drive down was surprisingly effortless. I returned just in time for beer o'clock and me & the boys went down to our favourite pub 'Dillon's' Irish bar. It's our favourite place because it costs $3 for any beer on tap. It was great to catch up with my mates as it was at least 6 days since I'd last seen them!!
The following day I met up with yet another friend from back home. Mike was over in LA for the week and had booked a room at the Hotel Roosevelt for the Saturday night. He kindly let me stay over with him and we enjoyed the luxury of a fancy hotel, although the mini bar wasn't to be tampered with due to the astronomical prices!
Paul joined us, and the three of us went out to the Rainbow Room which is a famous place where all the rock stars used to hang out such as Jimmy Hendrix. We ate probably the best and biggest pizza in the world. Then it was time to move on. We took a cab over to 'loaded' some bar on the East side of Hollywood boulevard. The cab driver didn't know where we were going and dropped us off around half a mile away from the place. We approached a tattoo parlour and I decided it would be crazy to just walk past without getting one. I had one in mind that I was going to get, and within an hour I was no longer a 'tattoo virgin'. I now have the word 'peace' in Cambodian tattooed on the inside of my left bicep. Now that's rock & roll!
After a crazy night I woke up in the Roosevelt Hotel 'Hangover' style. Looked at my tattoo and prayed it didn't mean 'penis' instead of 'peace'.
Mike being a seasoned visitor of California took me on a tour around Beverly Hills where all the stars live. It was amazing how much money there must be around the area and some of the houses look more like hotels.
It was time to say goodbye to Mike and it was no sooner time for me to say goodbye to LA. I don't really buy into the LA lifestyle and I much prefer the laid back beach lifestyle, however having made such great friends with Paul & Drew, it felt like coming home each time I visited them in Hollywood. This is truly the final time I will be in LA on this trip. My parting gift from the LAPD, another parking ticket!!!
I have now ventured further South to my Californian home and penultimate stop on this trip; San Diego.
