Stu & Amy See The World!
Valdivia & Panguipulli
Tuesday 6th June - Wednesday 7th June
What a god awful day! Rain like you haven't seen in the UK since last week (probably). Valdivia has two rivers running through the town (apparently) but we can't really appreciate them as it's just so miserable.
Still we try to make the best of a bad situation and have a wander around town whilst getting soaked. We sort out changing over some travelers cheques in one of the dodgiest establishments ever (all locked doors with bullet proof glass, it's like visiting Liverpool on a rainy weekend) and walk along to the fish market to see one huge sea lion being fed scraps. Amy is offered some fish heads to throw to the sea lion but for some reason she screams like a big girl!
Probably the only other highlight of the day is Burger and chips for lunch (we really are trying to eat our veggies you know!)
It rains even harder in the afternoon and there's flooding in the street. It then rains even harder in the evening. A great time was had by all????$•"!&/???
We leave Valdivia with the distinct impression that we have been ripped off again
"But we have no change sir, honest" and catch the bus to Panguipulli with the intention to cross over into Argentina as soon as possible (Chile is cursed don't you know.)
Amy wins at scrabble and Stu is once more in a sulk.
We arrive in Panguipulli (stupid name for a place anyway) and it's actually stopped raining. The small town is quite nice and we go for a bit of a walk by the lake, being followed by a really friendly mangy dog.
Somehow there are dogs in the street everywhere we have been so far in South America only they are not angry like in South East Asia but rather chilled-out (probably something to do with the fact that they know they are not on the menu here) Every now and again we are followed for about 10 minutes, it's like they have a sixth sense as they know we are not from around here.
For lunch we have a very greasy chicken and chips (still no sign of veggies on the menu) and then just chill for a while pondering our next move as we have found out that it's impossible to cross into Argentina from Panguipulli (just the way our luck is going at the moment).
In the evening we go out and try the national alcoholic beverage, Pisco Sour which is VERY tasty. Dinner is soggy pizza in a restaurant that looks like it's someones front room (probably was).
So we move on once more, with sopping wet tail between our legs and to top it all off we have started to get a very smelly case of Delhi belly. Joy-oh-Joy!
Next stop will be Pucon a little further North, here's hoping that our prayers are answered soon and that it stops raining...... PLEASE......
Will keep you updated
Lots of Love
Stu & Amy.
