Stu & Amy See The World!
We arrive in San Martin and, youve guessed it, it is raining! Fortunately not too hard, so we decide to walk from the bus station to the hotel we have picked out. Unfortunately the one we were after looked decidedly shut, so we decided to splurge on the next nearest one. After staying in lots of places that were only just warm enough, we were ecstatic to discover that the rooms in this hotel were roasting!
We head out that evening for a fantastic Parrilla (aka steak and chips) and a lovely bottle of red wine. See a bit of the town, which looks really nice and again a bit like an alpine town with all the wooden chalet style buildings.
The next morning we awake to more showers but decide to see a bit more of the town. After a bit of a wander we give up and find a great bar and settle in for lunch, whilst watching the footy!
Fortunately the weather clears up in the afternoon and we walk to the lake and then follow a road up the hills behind the town from where we get great views of the lakes and mountains.
Another great meal in the evening and then bed.
The following day we decide to take a boat trip across the lake to a small village. We follow a walk up the hills to a very impressive waterfall and around the edge of the lake until the boat returned to pick us up again. Got some great views of the mountains, but got the feeling we could have seen more if the weather had been better.
The next day we are booked onto a tour of the seven lakes, and are then being dropped in Bariloche, our next stop, at the end. We were hoping for some good weather....
But...guess what? It wasnt to be. Fortunately the rain seemed to hold out for most of the day, but it was so overcast and dreary that we barely saw anything. The first lake couldnt even be seen at all through the mist!! However we did get an impression of the place and could see that with good weather it would have been a whole different trip! Well, at least we got a ride to Bariloche (the rest of the tour had to spend another 3 hours on the bus going back to San Martin!)
