Well well well....I've finally got round to writing the blog. It may sound crazy but we hardly ever have any free time. We're actually in Kuala Lumpur now ill!! So this may not be very witty or generally clear.
So....We spent just under a week in Melbourne. 4 days were spent in St Kilda, the bohemian area of Melbourne. It was very cool, with little shops and cafes and right on the beach (which wasn't that great)! Melbourne is well known as having "4 seasons in day" (great Crowded House song if you don't know it), and we found it to be very true. The morning could be really hot and the afternoon pouring and the evening freezing - very odd!
Anyway....the main aim of Melbourne was to visit the Neighbours set (Australian soap)! What a dream come true haha! Arriving on Ramsey ST was very surreal. We also visited some sets and met Fraser and Lou Carpenter drove past. We were all cheering him as he got out of his car but he just shot a dirty look, tutut! That evening we went to Neighbours night which was a bit cheesy but we met a few more stars (Janelle Timmons, Rachel Kinski, Foz from Hollyoaks and some random I've never seen in my life)!
The flies in Melbourne were a shock. They're big and don't buzz or bite but when you go outside they're all over you, especially on your face, its so irritating.
We moved hostels to a more central one for the last few nights. Here we made some really good friends I was really sorry to leave. Melbourne was really good and we really wanted to stay for a few months, have a rest from travelling and work for a bit :o(.
However....Syndey was calling us (we went crazy in ST Kilda and booked all our hostels, transport ands trips for OZ so had a strict schedule to stick to).
We travelled through Australia by Greyhound bus. The journey to Sydney lasted about 13 hours and we checked into this really nasty hostel feeling tired and dirty but the night was just getting started - we met Kiki (our Dutch pal we were with in NZ) and then met Lexi, one of my best friends from home who has moved to Sydney for a yr . It was an emtional reunion and we all headed to an Irish bar where we then randomly met Paul and Lucy (more pals from NZ)!! What a night - Lex missed her train back so we illegally slipped her into our dorm room. Needless to say it was not a comfy night sleeping 2 in a top bunk bed! Also a girl in our room awoke with a cockroach crawling on her in the night. This was an omen for things to come, as many of the hostels through OZ came with unmentioned freebies including cockroaches, lizards and bed bugs. Happy Days!
The next day me and Ruthie walked to the Sydney Opera House. On the way there was a huge tropical storm. We were in the middle of the botanical gardens with lightning coming down all around us, was dodgy but exhilerating, the rain was unbelievable! Sadly we had to buy some new clothes from a surf shop so we could get in a taxi hehe.
The following 2 nights we stayed at Lexi's place. We spent our days on walks and went to Church for a carol service on the Sunday! We spent our evenings having a few drinks and dancing and singing on Bondi Beach - the stars were amazing! So many thanks to Lex for such a good time. Ooh, just remember Sam from Home and Away workes as a lifeguard on Bondi Beach so me and Lex went on a hunt to find him. Sadly he wasn't working that day but another handsome lifeguard stepped up and had his picture taken with us (see pictures - very funny)!
Our last day in Sydney was spent trekking in the Blue Mountains. Kiki joined us. It was all a bit of a let down, the weather was quite grotty so the views weren't amazing, but...we did see some wild kangaroos, a funnel web spider (the most dangerous spider in the world - it was right by our feet where we were walking) and rode on the worlds steepest train (it was almost vertical)! xx
