Well we've not really been out the room for a day due to Anna's hangover from the other night so decide to book a boat trip to Maya bay where the beach with DiCaprio was filmed! We rocket up to the tourist office and along with 15 or so others we are told to follow which I can only describe as what looks like a homeless man. We follow him to the beach expecting a speedboat or small ferry especially with our 15 person strong group but no its a local fishing boat!!! This thing is like a wooden canoe on steroids! So we all jam on and after a few grunts from our homeless tour guide/boat captain we wobble off to sea! First stop is for some snorkelling a couple of km's off the coast of Phi Phi. The snorkelling gear looks like someone got a bulk buy deal from poudstretcher in the 90's and proves to be hopeless! After pulling on some of this state of the art equipment I jump off the boat and go under to start my snorkelling! At this point water floods into my mask and into my mouth piece and I emerge choking up sea water and doggy paddle back to the boat like my life depends on it much to the amusement of our fellow passengers! The next stop is for more snorkelling and me and Anna decide to sit this one out! Which is probably for the best as apart from a good possibility of me nearly drowning again one of the Aussies on the boat gets attacked by a sea urchin and ends up with about 10 spines in her foot! At last we get to the main show the piece de resistance - Maya bay! We get dropped off at the far side of the island and have to walk through some caves then over a precarious wooden ladder structure to access the beach but is worth the hike(not in Anna's opinion as she complains all the way there and back about the sheer disregard for her health and safety. The red coats would never put their customers in this dangerous position) as it is pretty cool(see picture)! On the journey back to phi phi the tiny boat is continually hit with massive waves and although everybody is laughing an joking about it I'm sure I am not the only who thinks we are going to die!!! We arrive back in one piece much to my delight and surprise......good job this trip only cost £5!!! Beeeer o'clock!
