We actually got our next helpex the same day as leaving the devil. The decision to do another one really was down to money obviously due to the last experience it really was the last thing we wanted to do. The ladies name was Trudy and we were to be staying with her and her two boys Callum and Max, we turned up at her house in suburban area of Western Sydney about half hour drive from the centre. It was nice to actually be in civilization again, that night she dropped the boys off at their grandparents and took us out for dinner to get to know us and it turned out that she hadn't had anyone from Helpex yet we were her first helpers, we did see this as a fortunate thing as she wouldn't be scarred by any bad experiences but also perhaps guide her as to what a good host expects and gives in return. We had a lovely dinner with her we told her straight away what had happened so there would be no awkward moments and who knows he may have tried calling her!
She needed things doing in the house like painting, changing light fittings, fixing door k*** etc, very small jobs but the appreciation we got from her was phenomenal. She was a teacher so we just spent the day doing our jobs which she always thought was way more then we should have done and would tell us to stop a complete change to where we had come from. She would bring home lovely cheese and wine, cooked us great dinners, it hardly felt like we were doing enough. She showed us around Sydney, we met her friends and had dinner with them, she took me out to the Sex and the City premiere and even brought us tickets to go whale watching as a thank you for everything we had done, and I almost forgot she took us to the Blue mountains where we had amazing hot chocolate. Needless to say we stayed there for roughly 4 weeks, we were very comfortable indeed! The night before we were due to leave she brought us a gift each. Angel and demon would be the name of this chapter if it was a book.Trudy if you ever read this we thank you so very much, you restored our faith in HelpEx after our Damian experience.
Sydney is a really enjoyable city, one of our favourite in Oz actually, there's a lot to do and you can't help but take photos of the opera house from every angle imaginable!! On our whale watching tour we did see whales and even had the luck to see one completely jump out of the water, awesome. Steve had a bit of seasickness again and I think he missed a few sightings due to having his head funelled down the toilet!
We managed to sell our car with only a few hours to spare; at a loss naturally, Oz is not our place for buying and selling cars with luck.
We set off for Perisher at 6am in the morning with just a 6hr bus ride this time, piece of….
